What we do

Columbine holds regular monthly meetings and programs with presentations during our “meeting season” from September through May. Other social and educational activities are scheduled throughout the season to benefit members. Read down this page to learn more about what our members do. Remember, visitors are always welcome at Columbine functions!

Regular Meetings and Programs

Our business and program meetings are held monthly except in June, July, August and December. Business meetings are held on the second Tuesdays. Programs and workshops are held on the third Tuesdays. Business and Program meetings include presentations and are scheduled for 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Executive Board Meetings

CGHS Board of Directors meetings are held monthly, except in June, July and December. These meetings, which are open to membership, take place at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.

Early Bird Workshops

Additional workshops are scheduled for special presentations or training purposes. When scheduled, these “Early Bird” educational workshops are generally held on the morning of the third Tuesday meeting. There is no regular schedule so the Newsletter or the Web Site (Meetings) should be consulted.

Columbine Writers’ Group

Columbine members who are interested in writing and sharing their family stories meet after regular CGHS afternoon meetings on the third Tuesday of the month. This is a casual, low-key, friendly environment, which allows Columbine writers to share, inspire, and improve their craft.

Educational Classes

About once a year, Columbine schedules a series of classes on either basic or advanced genealogy. Classes in a variety of genealogical subjects and levels are taught, and tours are sometimes scheduled to local research facilities. Watch the newsletter or web site for scheduled classes.

December Social

Each December, the Society holds a holiday social pot luck luncheon with shared holiday dishes served prior to an entertaining program. The food is usually served before noon, with a program scheduled at 1:00 p.m.

Annual Used Book Sale and Luncheon

Columbine’s Spring Book Sale and Luncheon take place the second week in May. Books, magazines and other genealogical or historical items are donated for sale. This is a fundraiser for the acquisition program to purchase books for local libraries. For these events, a salad luncheon is served starting at about 11:00 a. m. A short program follows at 1:00 p.m.

Bemis Research Night

Columbine joins with Bemis Public Library to hold an evening research night while the library is closed to the public. Watch the newsletter and web site for scheduled Bemis events.

All these activities give Columbine members many opportunities to chat and share their most recent finds. Our members enjoy expanding their genealogy skills each year while sharing many rewarding friendships.
